Melanie Scrudder

Melanie Scrudder is a figurative and mixed-media artist working in painting, drawing, collage, and other materials. Her work often begins with a person, memory, feeling, or story she wants to understand more deeply. Her process combines close observation, reference images, measuring, drawing, and experimentation, with room for instinct and humor along the way.

She takes the work seriously, but not necessarily herself. The studio can be meticulous, emotional, ridiculous, frustrating, joyful, and occasionally require lying face-down on the floor.
